Heartland Football League:
First – Any players that have already played in the Heartland League may continue to do so in 2010 and going forward until they are 13. The Heartland League has gone through some major changes as well this year with no “A” and “B” level teams. They have 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 teams with higher weight limits for carrying the ball and no limit to the actual weight as long as the age requirement is met.
Pop Warner comes to OSAA:
OSAA is proud to announce it also will be joining Pop Warner Football League this year! That means 5 through 12 year olds are now eligible to play. Let me give you some highlights as to why we are making this change:
1. Founded in 1929 Pop Warner has since flourished to over 400,000 participants, 40,000 coaches and over 1 million volunteers WORLD WIDE.
2. It is the only youth football organization that requires academic proficiency as well as a strict age and weight matrix that reduces the risk of injury AND has been the starting point for more than 70% of NFL players.
3. Unparalleled Playing Fields. All Games will be played at top of line facilities. These fields include newly renovated Omaha Burke, Northwest High , Bryan High, and Papio-LaVista South Stadiums as well as Buffet and Morton Middle School fields.
4. Physicals are required for the safety of the players. OSAA will hopefully have it’s own physical date next year, but the Bobcats have offered to allow us to have our OSAA players attend their “$10 Physical Day” fundraiser so all of our OSAA Pop Warner players may have their physicals completed. (Flyer attached for the day of physicals and the needed physical form is attached as well.)
5. Academics and grades of players are documented by each team throughout the season to ensure the players maintain eligibility to play.
6. Coaches are trained and thoroughly background checked by OSAA and Pop Warner Football.
7. Weight and age guide
